Our staff are fully committed to our children; they are specialist trained in excellent Autism Practice to be able to understand and support every child and their skills and empathy are highly praised by parents and carers, as well as by the Local Authorities we work with.
Our Clinical Team support both children and staff in ensuring all our autism practice is based upon up to date clinical assessment. With access to Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy our children receive regular reviews and our staff receive regular updates to training and tools to work at the most effective level.

Hannah Mackley – Headteacher
Hannah has worked within Special Educational Needs Schools for over 18 years. She has specialised in supporting young people with Autism and Learning Difficulties as a teacher, Assistant Head Teacher and then Head of ASD Outreach Service for Hull. Hannah has successfully lead schools through Autism Accreditation and provided bespoke Autism specific training, advice and support to a range of different services from schools and colleges to parent groups and museums. She is currently Headteacher after joining Options Barton in June 2020.
Hannah is the Allergy Lead for the site.
Carol Botterill – Deputy Headteacher and Careers Coordinator
With over 20 years’ experience in Special Educational Needs, Carol has worked across specialist schools and inclusion provisions in London, Scotland and Yorkshire. Before joining Options Barton as Deputy Headteacher in 2021, she worked for Northcott Outreach, supporting schools across Hull, and led the development of the city’s first specialist resource base at Bricknell Primary School.
Carol holds a Master’s degree in Autism and is passionate about raising aspirations for young people with additional needs. She is committed to developing ambitious, personalised and meaningful learning experiences that prepare pupils for life beyond school. As Careers Lead, she works to ensure every pupil develops the skills, confidence and opportunities needed to achieve their aspirations.
Carol also brings lived experience of neurodiversity, having inattentive ADHD and having experienced selective mutism as a child. This strengthens her commitment to ensuring every young person feels understood, valued and empowered to succeed.
