Careers Education Summary
Key Stage 2 and 3 Careers Education Focus
- Timetabled careers lessons or a thematic approach following the Career Development Institute framework (dependent on the pathway each young person is following)
- Inspirational visitors/employer engagement opportunities
- Opportunities for onsite work experience placements
- Individual job roles within class (e.g. Snack master, water monitor etc)
- Opportunities for work experience at Hall Farm
- Role-play activities of work-related activities
- Joining with and observing older learners carrying out vocational activities (e.g. at the farm)
- Working together with students and families to identify aspirations and goals for the future (transition plan in place in Year 9 to be discussed in EHCPs)

- Life skills lessons to enhance personal development
- Lessons focused on understanding and writing CV’s, applying for jobs, interview practice and appropriate behaviour
- Mock and real interviews for work experience positions
- On-site work-related learning activities such as working in ‘Bistro’ supporting in the school Kitchen, tuck shops
- First offsite work experience placement in local business or charity
- 1:1 meetings with Jenifer Jones Careers Advisor)
- Visits to Skills and Employment Fairs
- Education, Health & Care Plan Transition Review
- Working together with students and families to identify aspirations and goals for the future
- Supporting students with transition to mainstream college for those who choose to do so/appropriate for
Key Stage 5 Careers Education Focus
- Timetabled careers Lessons or a thematic approach following the Career Development Institute framework (dependent on the pathway each young person is following)
- Increase in on site work related learning activities to include Enterprise, supporting jobs around the site, cleaning and creating display boards
- Lessons to develop understanding on processes involved in searching for and finding a job. Including developing CV’s, interview techniques and applications, where appropriate
- Introduction to vocational experience including, Catering, mechanics Horticulture, Hospitality, Health and Social care and Animal Care, Beauty
- Visits to Skills and Employment Fairs
- Mock and real interviews for internal/external positions
- Visits to appropriate Colleges and FE Institutes
- Offsite visits to local businesses
- Inspirational visitors/Employer engagement opportunities
- Life Skills curriculum which links to Open Award accreditation including Entry level Awards, Certificate, Extended Certificate and diploma’s in: Skills for further learning and employment; Independent Living-Looking after yourself and your Home;

On-Site Work-Related Learning Opportunities
- Bistro – Students take part in various roles including waiter/waitress, cleaner, pot washer, preparing snacks and treats, and food safety.
- School Kitchen – Students will be responsible for setting the salad, sandwich and puddings for lunch. After lunchtime, they will clear and clean tables and then re-set them for the next lot of diners.
- Jobs around the school – Students take part in many activities across the school grounds, cleaning activities, litter picking.
- Social Enterprise – Students carry out a wide range of Social Enterprise activities, raising money for the school resources and equipment.
- Snack trolley – Students sell healthy snacks to staff and peers across the week
