For those of you that haven’t been able to venture into the greenhouse I thought you might like a few pictures.
Exciting things are happening in our garden, plants that have given us their fruits have moved over to make space for others, carrots and leeks are ready to make an appearance and fingers crossed they will come out nice and straight.
Billy and Bessy Brussel are growing well and should soon be ready to pick. The cabbages are doing fine, and are now beginning to grow hearts, bless them.
I’ve managed to stop the runner beans from doing a marathon and they are now tied to their canes and bursting forth with lots of baby beans.
The sweet peas keep giving and it’s been a joy to see students from groups going home proudly clutching their bunches of flowers which they have picked during a visit to the garden.
We have sweetcorn beginning to make an appearance along with peas and red curly kale, and, as for the courgettes they are wonderful, big thanks to Colin and his helpers.👏
The tomatoes just don’t want to stop growing some have reached the greenhouse roof but they are laden with fruit, hoping they will hold out until we all get back. We also have sweet peppers, chillies and baby cucumbers keeping the tomatoes company, in fact, we now have a full salad growing.
The wildflower patch is looking spectacular and will get better every year and the flowers in the raised bed and other parts of the garden are giving us a riot of colour.
I’m afraid the scarecrow is looking a little worse for wear but do not panic he will be getting a makeover. Have we any volunteers for next year?
There are big plans afoot for next term folks, so feel free to donate any packets of seeds or such like that you may find kicking around at home or perhaps find their way into your basket as you trudge around the supermarket or garden centre. I can assure you that all donations will be greatly received and given a good home.😊
I will be popping in at least once a week during the holidays to check how things are doing, but, big premature thanks to Carrie and Cain for volunteering to water and keep an eye on everything, you are stars 😇.
Well, that’s me signing off, thank you all very very very much for all your kind comments about how the garden is looking, it makes all the hard work worthwhile to know that everyone has taken pleasure in seeing it evolve. Don’t forget it’s OUR community garden so if there is anything that you think we should try to grow or any ideas (especially how to keep those pesky critters at bay) please feel free.
Cheers everybody see you next term have a great summer break.
