Options Barton School Students Win Small School Award at Lincolnshire Institute of Technology STEM Challenge
Everyone at Options Barton School is incredibly proud of six of our students, who were crowned Small School Winners at the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology STEM Challenge.
The challenge tasked students with designing and building a trailer capable of transporting a full bucket of water across a demanding obstacle course while keeping the load as level and stable as possible. The course featured a range of obstacles including sand, gravel, rumble strips, adverse cambers, a humpback bridge, a boulder field and a stair climb, testing the students’ engineering skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
The success was made possible through the dedication of our six students, who gave up their Thursday lunch breaks over several weeks to attend a STEM Club. During these sessions, they worked collaboratively to design, build, test and refine their prototype, learning from each challenge and continually improving their design.
Throughout the project, the students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, resilience, communication and determination. Their enthusiasm for engineering and willingness to persevere through setbacks were evident from start to finish.
On the day of the competition, the students proudly represented Options Barton School, showcasing the results of their hard work and commitment. Competing against schools from across Lincolnshire, they impressed the judges with their innovative design and collaborative approach, earning the title of Small School Winners.
This achievement highlights the incredible potential of our students when given opportunities to explore STEM through practical, hands-on learning. We are immensely proud of everything they accomplished and hope this experience inspires them to continue developing their confidence, creativity and engineering skills.
A huge congratulations to all six students for this fantastic achievement!
